Game Info: Skills

Many skills will become available to players only as they reach certain levels. Many skills also have additional capabilities and effects as players increase in levels.

Passive and Active Skills

Most skills are passive, which means you don't have to do anything to activate them. For example, Beam Weapon is a passive skill, which is automatically taken into account anytime you use a beam weapon. However, Hacking is an active skill, which means you must manually activate the Hack button in order to use it.

Active skills are marked with an asterisk (*). If a skill is not marked with an asterisk, then it is passive. Note that some skills have a power-up delay, and they can be interrupted if you take damage during the power-up sequence.

Skills that have new abilities at higher levels also have additional icons on your Skills list. These icons will be "greyed out" until you acquire those skills, but you can see their details by hovering your mouse over the icons. When these skills are attained, you can drag the icon onto your shortcut bar.

Skills: Advancement

Main Skills Interface

Some skills require a minimum level in a related experience pool. (For example, advancing a level in the Projectile Weapons skill might also require a minimum level of Combat experience.) Until the required experience level has been reached, the skill will not be available. Some skills may only be made available after completing a specific mission.

The Skill Interface Window

The top skill interface contains information about your name, race, class, overall level, and number of credits in your possession.

The middle portion of the skill interface shows the individual experience pools for Combat, Exploration and Trade. The number inside each bar indicates the level for that specific pool.

The bottom portion of the skill interface shows the skills that can be advanced through different methods:

Advancing Skills:

The next skill level will cost a number of skill points equal to the current skill level (a level 2 skill will cost two skill points to raise to level 3).

Once skill points are earned, they can be used to advance (level up) skills displayed in the skill interface. A green triangle will appear to the right of the skill box if there are enough points available to increase a particular skill.

Click on a skill box for additional information. You will be able to see the current skill level, the abilities associated with the current level and the abilities associated with the next level. It will also display the number of skill points you have to spend and the skill costs for the next level.

Skill Before UpgradeSkill After Upgrade

If you wish to advance that skill, click the Upgrade button.

After spending your skill points, the skill interface will display the change to skill status. In our example, you will notice a second gold circle next to the Shield Tech skill. The skill information has now been updated to display the new level, new abilities, the abilities available with the next level of that skill, and the cost to upgrade to the next level.

Beam Weapon

The Beam Weapon skill allows utilization of higher tech level beam weapons and improves the player's accuracy when utilizing them. A player's Beam Weapon skill level must be at or above the level of a particular Beam Weapon in order for it to be equipped.
